System
The major objective of the project is to develop a system that will support out-of-hospital physical rehabilitation and physical activity monitoring services. The PAMAP system comprises a decentralized architecture and a set of communicating services. This has the advantage of fast adaptability to new components and simple maintenance and deployment. The system has two separate conceptual parts: the information management (the part most visible to the systems users) and the underlying information acquisition system (the sensor network and associated information extraction technology).
From the information management point of view, the PAMAP system consists of the infrastructure and a set of applications that facilitate out-of-hospital physical rehabilitation interventions and physical activity monitoring.
From the data acquisition point of view, the PAMAP system consists of the sensor network and a control unit that links the sensors and several different I/O devices.
An interactive TV (i-TV) interface is used to enable patients to gain access to their health record and the details of the rehabilitation plan to be followed. The i-TV solution is used to increase the acceptance and ease the learning amongst elderly users, who generally are not very familiar with computers.Another important part of the PAMAP system is the web application for collecting and managing the information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Apart from the motion and activity information this web application also includes a comprehensive summary of the medical record of the monitored subjects, a rehabilitation plan management module and a health status surveys module.
